Dr. Irina Diyankova is a friend and colleague who is providing valuable therapy services to survivors of trauma in Knoxville, Tennessee. She recently wrote the following blog post about the high activation and disconnection experienced in Survival Mode after trauma and how to shift to Healing Mode. She lists ways to move towards the Healing Mode by making conscious choices to nurture one's body and nervous system, to increase internal resources, and to connect to something bigger than one's self. While the tools are listed, she makes clear that this is not a to-do list or item of things to be completed and checked off. Healing is an ongoing journey that is often not linear and requires compassion and gentleness along the way.
